Protac SenSit

Specially designed chair which stimulate tactile, muscle and joint sensation

The Protac SenSit is a specially-designed chair which induces a feeling of well-being, soothing and relaxing the user while also helping them to concentrate.

Ideal for both adults and children, the chair is filled with flexible plastic balls, which stimulate tactile, muscle and joint sensation. This then sends impulses to the central nervous system which has a calming effect, leading to greater bodily awareness and improved well-being. Snuggly side and neck wings can be wrapped around the user, further increasing the feeling of well-being.

Children and adults with concentration difficulties benefit from sitting in the chair, and many use it when doing homework, working at a computer, or in social situations where they need to relax but also focus on what is happening around them.

The chair provides good alternative seating for wheelchair userrs as it is very stable and easily adaptable.

A footstool, the Protact SenSit Puff, is also available to use either with the chair as a foot/leg support, or as a stand-alone chair.

Case studies

Four-year-old girl

The girl has severe physical and emotional anxiety problems that affect her daily life. Her agitation diminishes when she has been sitting in the chair. She makes a beeline for the chair in the motor skills training room.

After four to six minutes sitting in silence and completely wrapped up in the chair, she will start to communicate. Her speech becomes significantly more coherent. Then, when we do the sensory motor activities, the girl is far more relaxed than she was before we introduced her to the chair. She often remains seated in the chair while doing activities that require hand-eye coordination - and the result is an improved quality in the training.

Preschool for children aged 2-7

We use SenSit in both groups in the pre-school every single day. We use the chair whenever a child signals that he or she wishes to create space, needs security or is physically agitated.

When the chair is not in use in the groups, it is placed in the preschool's common room where it is available for anyone, child or adult, who needs stimulus. Many of our children find their way to the chair, mostly at the end of the day when they need a bit of peace and quiet.

Most of our children can climb into the chair without help, which makes it accessible and easy to use.
